Craps bets - come bets
A come bet may be made on every throw
of the dice once the shooter has established a point
on the come-out roll. It is made by placing the amount
of chips you wish to wager in the designated come area
of the craps layout.
After the bet has been placed, the very
next roll of the dice becomes the come-out roll for
that wager. Thus, if the shooter rolls a 7, you will
win even though pass line bettors lose. If an 11 is
rolled, you will win while the pass line bets will not
be affected. If you win immediately, you win even money.
Conversely, should one of the craps
numbers (2, 3, 12) come up you will lose, but the line
bets will be unaffected. You are twice as likely to
win on the first roll after you have made this bet as
you are to lose immediately, as the 7 and 11 have a
combined chance of 8 possible roll combinations, while
the 2,3 and 12 have a total of just 4 possible roll
combinations.
If none of these numbers are thrown immediately after
your bet, then you will neither win nor lose immediately.
However, the box number that is thrown then becomes
the established ‘come point’ for your bet.
To win this bet from here, your come point must be
repeated before a 7 is rolled. Once a point has been
established for your come bet, the dealer will move
the chips you have wagered to the corresponding numbered
box on the craps layout.
When you win a come bet, the dealer will pay you off
by placing your original wager, along with your winnings,
in the come section of the layout. If you do not immediately
retrieve your chips, they will be in action on the next
roll of the dice as a new come bet.
To further complicate things, you can make an odds
wager on a come point by handing the dealer the appropriate
amount of chips and stating that you wish to take the
odds on that point. This works exactly the same way
as it does with the pass-line odds bet and the table
of payouts is exactly the same:
Point numbers
Points 4 and 10
Points 5 and 9
Points 6 and 8 |
Correct odds
2 to 1
3 to 2
6 to 5 |
House payoff
pay 2 to 1
pay 3 to 2
pay 6 to 5 |
Although the come bets may be working all the time,
even on a come-out bet for a new shooter, the free odds
bets on a come-bet are said to be not working on the
come-out roll, which means you would not lose your odds
bet on the come bet, if a 7 was rolled on the main come-out
roll.
Come bets can be a little complicated to get to grips
with, but they do give the house the same percentage
as odds bets on the pass line, and also allow a series
of bets to be made to take advantage of those occasions
where the dice go crazy and avoid turning up a 7 for
long periods of time.
